Sacramento – Today, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) honored Ascencia of Glendale as the 43rd Assembly District’s 2018 Nonprofit of the Year.
(Los Angeles) - In the last few years, thousands of homeless people have died on the streets of California. (Sacramento) - With a special announcement on the California Assembly floor, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) remembers Allen Lund, who founded a prominent trucking company and supported many endeavors with the Catholic Church. Lund was married for 57 years and helped raise six children. “Allen Lund was a pillar of the La Cañada community, and a remarkable philanthropist who touched the lives of countless Californians,” says Assemblymember Friedman. (Sacramento) – Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) and the California State Assembly adjourned the April 23, 2018 floor session in the memory of Will Rogers. Rogers, who was serving as Burbank’s Mayor until his passing the previous week, died from liver cancer after a six month battle. With that in mind, legislators joined with advocacy groups to ask that critical natural resources programs receive funding in this year’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) budget allocations. “Our agricultural industry is a treasure for everybody in the state of California,” says Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale). (Sacramento) - Every year, lawmakers at the California State Capitol take time to honor survivors, and the lives lost during the Holocaust of WWII. As part of the Jewish Caucus, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) talked about the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, shared her personal story of loss, and the importance of remembering the past. “I want to acknowledge the survivors in our midst today, to thank them for standing strong, for being here to bear witness to that history,” says Assemblymember Friedman.

There’s a not-so-silent killer on our streets – one responsible for 265 traffic-related deaths in Los Angeles County in 2016 alone. In Glendale, where I previously served as Councilmember and Mayor prior to the Assembly, traffic-related injuries and fatalities rose 25% in 2016. However, Glendale is not alone in this alarming trend; cities and neighborhoods across my district and throughout the Los Angeles region have seen an uptick in the overall number of traffic collisions involving other vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The statistics are alarming, and yet for decades, cities ha
