Sacramento, CA – Today, Nick Schultz officially took the oath of office as the newly elected State Assemblymember for California’s 44th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Burbank and Glendale, alongside the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Sunland Tujunga, North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, and Valley Village.
“I am honored and grateful to have this opportunity to serve the constituents of California’s 44th Assembly District,” said Assemblymember Schultz. “I have dedicated my career to serving the public, initially as a Deputy District Attorney, later as a Deputy Attorney General, and most recently as a Councilmember and Mayor for the City of Burbank. Our communities are facing enormous economic challenges. I am focused and committed to working every day in our State Capitol to address the kitchen table issues that will improve the quality of life for my constituents. Thank you for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.”
Assemblymember Schultz was raised by a single mother in a working-class family where he became the first in his family to graduate from college, earning both a bachelor’s degree and a juris doctor from the University of Oregon. As a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice, Schultz led efforts to combat public corruption, human trafficking, and financial crimes while working to establish California’s first Post-Conviction Review Unit to address wrongful convictions.
Prior to his election to the State Assembly, Schultz served on the Burbank City Council and was elected Mayor of Burbank in 2023. During his tenure, he spearheaded the city’s most ambitious greenhouse gas reduction plan, created housing for low-income families, and reduced homelessness—all while maintaining public safety and reducing crime.
In the Assembly, Assemblymember Schultz will prioritize housing and combating climate change.
