Opinion: Speed cameras save lives. California is long overdue to try them

Speed is the single biggest factor in determining the severity of a car crash, and yet California has resisted the most obvious tool to slow down traffic: speed-enforcement cameras. Still, the state has learned a few lessons over the years from experiments with red-light cameras, and there’s now a bill in Sacramento that could deploy similar technology to lifesaving effect.

26 chemicals targeted for addition to the state’s landmark toxic-free cosmetics law

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Today California Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) introduced Assembly Bill 496 to ban the sale of cosmetic products that contain 26 toxic chemicals known to have an effect on human health. 

The chemicals include some borate compounds, lily aldehyde, cyclotetrasiloxane, trichloroacetic acid, styrene and certain colors.

Transparent Ticket Pricing Bill Introduced by California Assemblymember Laura Friedman

Sacramento, CA—On Monday, December 5th, Assemblymember Laura Friedman introduced Assembly Bill 8 to provide greater transparency and regulation for the primary and secondary live event ticket marketplace. Provisions of the bill include clarity of pricing and fees, specification of location of seat(s), and a link to the refund policies.
