I Stand with the Dreamers

(Sacramento).- The pressure is mounting on the White House and the President to protect the five year old immigration program know as DACA. The program allos undocumented immigrants who entered the country as minors, to receive a two year period od deferred action from deportation and makes them eligible for a work permit. Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) says she is standing by the nearly 800,000 young people know as "Dreamers" have benefitted from this program around the United States, over 200,000 of them are in California. Friedman Supports Turkish Divestment Legislation

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) joined the majority of the State Assembly in her support of the Divestment from Turkish Bonds Act (AB 1597), authored by Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian (D-West Toluca Lake), to hold Turkey accountable for their continued denial of the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians. "Every year this Assembly has passed resolutions to urge our own government to acknowledge the genocide," said Assemblymember Friedman. "Well, now it's time to put some teeth in those resolutions." AB 1597 prohibits the boards of the CalPERS and CalSTRS from making additional or new investments, or renewing existing investments issued, owned, controlled, or managed by the government of Turkey. More specifically, CalPERS and CalSTRS must liquidate any of the investments described above within six months of the passage of a federal law imposing sanctions on Turkey. The Science of Desert Water

To explain why she authored a bill to protect water in the Mojave Desert, Assemblywoman Laura Friedman goes back to her childhood. Growing up in Plantation, Florida, on the edge of the Everglades, the 50-year-old Glendale Democrat had a “front-row seat” to the destruction of the swamps, sloughs, and mangrove forests that spread across most of South Florida.

Two Awards In One Week for Silverlake Conservatory

Local music education nonprofit Silverlake Conservatory of Music, which moved to Los Feliz from its former Sunset Junction location last October, was named “Nonprofit of the Year” by California State Assemblymember Laura Friedman late last month, just days after receiving an architecture award from the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC).

Landmark Climate Change Legislation Passed by Legislature

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) joined a bipartisan majority of legislators in approving historic climate change legislation, Assembly Bill 398 and Assembly Bill 617. The combination of the two measures will create a statewide climate action plan and program to meet our emission reduction mandate, ensure economic prosperity and address critical health and air quality concerns.
