SACRAMENTO – As part of the Assembly’s celebration of Women’s History Month, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) recognized Dr. Anna Galfaian as the 43rd Assembly District Woman of the Year.

“Anna has done incredible work in the community,” said Friedman.  “She’s built a family practice that’s improved the lives of countless Californians, and she’s worked to support new health care providers through scholarships and mentoring.”

Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Dr. Galfaian moved to Moscow in 1971 to attend medical school.  Two years later, she immigrated to the United States and from 1979 to 1981, worked as a research assistant in the cardiology department of Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. There, she worked closely with renowned cardiologists, Swan and Ganz, and was responsible for research projects relating to the clinical outcome of novel nuclear testing results.

In 1984, following a residency and internship at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Dr. Galfaian decided to incorporate her passion for medicine with her entrepreneurial spirit and opened a private practice in Glendale, specializing in Family Practice. As a committed medical professional, her goal was to help her patients achieve long-term health and wellness. A year later, in 1985, Dr. Galfaian married her late husband, Eddie Galstian, and together, they had two daughters.

Throughout the years, Dr. Galfaian has served as an active member of the Armenian American Medical Society of California and as a Community Foundation Board Member for Glendale Memorial Hospital. She has also worked as a medical director of various nursing homes in Glendale and has mentored and trained nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical students who have worked under her guidance at her office.
