Pasadena (CA) – Legislators representing communities at risk of wildfires along the San Gabriel Foothills from La Canada to Upland will host a wildfire town hall in Pasadena on Thursday February 21st 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the Pasadena High School Gymnasium.
“We live in an area that is beautiful yet prone to wildfires which poses a risk to our property and well-being,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “The good news is that we can take steps at the individual and state level to help prevent wildfires that will save lives and our communities.”
The town hall is spearheaded by Assemblymember Chris Holden (AD-41), Chair of Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee, and will be joined by Assemblymembers Laura Friedman (AD-43), Blanca Rubio (AD-48), Ed Chau (AD-49), and State Senator Anthony Portantino (SD-25). They will bring expert panelists to discuss how residents can protect their homes from wildfires, what wildfire prevention measures the utilities are implementing, and how the State of California is preparing for and responding to catastrophic wildfires.
“With climate change, it’s no longer a question of if but when the next disaster will strike in our region,” said Assemblymember Friedman, Chair of the Assembly Natural Resources Committee. “How communities plan and prepare is critical and can save lives.”
“With 7 of the 20 most destructive fires in CA history happening in the past year alone, now more than ever the discussion of preparation for our at-risk communities is imperative,” said Assemblymember Rubio.
“The destruction left behind by the most recent fires are heartbreaking and a reminder for us to find ways to prepare against catastrophic events like this in the future,” said Assemblymember Ed Chau. “Hearing from our constituents and subject matter experts regarding the immediate and long-term implications these fires have on our communities is essential to working together, at the state and local level, to protect ourselves.”
The event is free, open to the public, and will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/assemblymemberchrisholden. More information can be found at https://a41.asmdc.org/event.
