SACRAMENTO, CA – As part of the California State Assembly’s celebration of Women’s History Month, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) recognized Mayor Terry Walker of La Cañada Flintridge as the 43rd Assembly District’s Woman of the Year.
“I deeply admire Mayor Walker’s extensive, prolific, and meaningful involvement in our community.” said Assemblymember Friedman. “For as long as I have known her, she’s been an exemplary leader who really understands her city and how to serve it.”
Mayor Teresa “Terry” Walker is a native of Southern California, and has been a resident and active member of the La Cañada Flintridge community for the past 34 years. After retiring from her position as the Administrative Vice President of the Allen Lund Company in 2010, she became the co-owner of the La Cañada Pet Clinic with her husband, Dr. Woody Walker. Never one to take it easy in retirement, Mayor Walker is actively involved in promoting local business, volunteering for service organizations, and as an advocate for her community on a regional and statewide level.
Mayor Walker has had extensive involvement as a volunteer in many organizations: she has been a member of the La Cañada Flintridge Guild of the Huntington Memorial Hospital since 1986, serving as President in 1994, served eight years on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of the Foothills and three terms as the President of the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce. Terry has participated on the La Cañada Flintridge Business Support and Development Committee since 2003, was appointed in 2008 as a Commissioner where she served for four years, including one term as Chair, of the city’s Public Works and Traffic Commission, and also served as a Planning Commissioner for three years prior to being elected to City Council.
Mayor Walker was first elected to the La Cañada City Council in March of 2015, and has earned a reputation as a thoughtful leader on both the local and regional stages. She represents La Cañada Flintridge as a delegate to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, a joint powers authority made up of representatives from 30 cities, three Los Angeles County Supervisorial Districts, and the three Municipal Water Districts located in the San Gabriel Valley.

Laura Friedman is the Chair of the Assembly Natural Resources Committee and represents the 43rd Assembly District which encompasses the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and La Cañada Flintridge, as well as the communities of La Crescenta and Montrose, and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Atwater Village, Beachwood Canyon, Los Feliz, East Hollywood, Franklin Hills, and Silver Lake.
