Burbank, 6/8/22 –Laura Friedman honors La Cañada-based Descanso Gardens as the 2022 California Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 43
“Descanso Gardens is a first-rate sanctuary, where people can experience both the flora that is key to our local ecosystems and notable species from all over the world,” Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) said. “Partnering with local schools, Descanso fosters a love for nature for the next generation. The community deeply cherishes the educational and recreational opportunities provided here.”
This is the seventh year of the California Nonprofit of the Year initiative. In this time of continuing uncertainty and suffering, nonprofits have continued to step up to support our communities as circumstances and needs change swiftly.
“Nonprofit organizations play such a critical role in our communities, and the last two years of the pandemic have only served to highlight that,” noted Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), which serves as a partner for this awards program. “California Nonprofit of the Year allows elected officials to shine a light on the important work nonprofits are doing in their districts and for everyone to appreciate the collective impact of nonprofits in our communities.”
Laura Friedman represents the 43rd Assembly District which encompasses the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and La Cañada Flintridge, as well as the communities of La Crescenta and Montrose, and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Atwater Village, Beachwood Canyon, Los Feliz, East Hollywood, Franklin Hills, and Silver Lake
