Friedman, California Legislature Commemorate 102nd Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) joined the rest of the Armenian Caucus for a state capitol news conference to honor the 1.5-million people who were killed 102 years ago in the Armenian Genocide. Assemblymember Friedman represents an area of Los Angeles that is home to the largest contingent of Armenian-Americans in the country. “Glendale is, I hope, soon to become the home of the Armenian-American museum,” said Assemblymember Friedman. “And that’s something that, while the week of remembrance really inspires people in the district every year, that museum is something that will educated and inspire from across the country and from around the world.” The Armenian Caucus also honored USC Institute of Armenian Studies leader Salpi H. Ghazarian for her contributions to addressing and resolving challenges in Armenian communities and announced 3rd Annual Essay & Visual Arts Scholarship winners. Friedman: NOW Chapter Founder, Women’s Rights Advocate…My Mom

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) brought a very special guest with her to work at the State Capitol. During the March 23, 2017 Floor Session, Assemblymember Friedman said her special guest “founded the first chapter of the National Organization of Women in Broward County, Florida” and jokingly added “and she forced her young children to canvass door-to-door their entire childhood, causing her eldest daughter to say she would not go to law school  and would never go into politics.” That eldest daughter, Assemblymember Friedman, then introduced her Mom, Carole Osman, to the Assembly. Celebrating Black History Month in the State Assembly

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) joined her colleagues in the State Assembly for a special ceremony to celebrate Black History Month. After a video depicting 50 years of the California Legislative Black Caucus history was shown, the Assembly passed Assembly Concurrent Resolution 6, a measure that designates the month of February 2017 as Black History Month and encourages the people of California to recognize the many talents, achievements, and contributions that African Americans make to their communities. Speaking on behalf of herself and the Legislative Women’s Caucus, Assemblymember Friedman said, “African-American women have contributed mightily to our history and deserve recognition in their own right during this month as we celebrate the accomplishments of all African-Americans.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.

Assemblymember Friedman: Governor’s State of the State Address was On Point

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) says she was very happy with the Governor’s “perfect summation” of how California should be an example for the rest of the nation. “The line that really stuck with me from the Governor’s speech was “When we protect and defend California, we defend the United States,” said Assemblymember Friedman. “And I think in California we have a responsibility to lead the nation.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.

Assembly Democrats Issue Open Letter To Californians

(Sacramento) – As a new president is sworn into office, California State Assembly Democrats are vowing to keep the California dream alive. In an open letter to all Californians, Democrats say “the California contract is a promise to ourselves and to one another that we will build a sustainable economy, environment and society that doesn’t just protect the wealthy or the powerful, but instead will benefit every Californian and benefit from every Californian.” Here’s the entire letter in this Assembly Access video.

Friedman, State Assembly Mark Korean-American Day

(Sacramento) – With the passage of Assembly ConcurrentResolution 3, the State Assembly declared January 13, 2017 as Korean-AmericanDay in California. Korean-American Day celebrates the many importantcontributions Korean-Americans have made in the fields of finance, technology,law, medicine, education, sports, media, the arts, the military, andgovernment. Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale), speaking for theLegislative Women’s Caucus as well, joined in the tribute saying, “Korean womenhave been trailblazers across all fields, including the arts, science,technology, law and the military and they have been fearless leaders in thefight to end human trafficking.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.

Glendale’s New Assemblymember is Laura Friedman

(Sacramento) – Family and friends filled the State Assembly chambers as newly elected Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) took the oath of office alongside the other 79 members of the State Assembly. “It’s a huge honor. I feel very grateful for the trust people have put in me,” said the Assemblymember Friedman. “Right now housing costs and homelessness are among the biggest challenges facing the district.
